I didn't know that Shaina Twain was a vegetarian. But apparently she has made a bunch of lists of the most famous, sexiest vegetarians, etc....
It's always good when someone famous comes out and announces that they are a vegetarian.
Apparently what turned her on to the lifestyle was that alot of her friends who were being treated for cancer told her that they were told by their physicians to cut out the meat.
It's nice that doctors are advising people to stop eating meat, it would be better if they were told this before they got sick.
You also have someone like Ringo Star coming out and saying that the vegetarian lifestyle has made him more healthy.
It's good when these big name, healthy people come out and make a statement. More people should become aware of how healthy the lifestyle is.
Good food, healthy food, is now available in most large supermarkets. You can find all types of fruits and vegetables. Plus tofu and other meatless alternatives.
Here where I heard about Shaina and her vegetarian lifestyle. Hope alot of her fans come away with something positive and and try to eat healthier and stop killing animals.

Wine Might Not Be Vegetarian: Fish in Wine?
Next time you open that bottle of Chardonay or Pinot Noir, you might be drinking fish. Yep, thats right, there are many wines that are made with fish. Just like beer. It's something that many in the wine world have known about for years, but it is only hitting the mainstream news outlets. People are finding out that wine is made with fish guts.
What? Fish guts you say? Yes.
The process in wine is called Fining. That is the step where the sediment from the wine is captured by something: egg protein, egg, milk casein, or fish guts. The sediment from the wine is then captured into this protein and it sinks to the bottom of the barrel. The wine can then be taken from the top. This "top" wine is clear and is much more visually desirable.
The winemakers will tell you that it is fine and healthy to drink. They will even tell you that it is not going to impart a taste. But the vigilant vegetarian or vegan will understand that they are drinking something that was processed with animal products. In some cases a fish was killed in order to make their wine. This is not something that you should be proud of.
Read more about it here. Your Wine may have fish in it.

Your Beer Might Not Be Vegetarian
Did you know that there are some beers and alcohol that have fish guts in them? Well, neither did I. It turns out that the some of the most famous beer brands have all sorts of ugly ingredients. Food coloring, additives, and in some cases: fish guts?
The fish guts is of interest to vegetarians because you would think that beer and wine was vegetarian. Well, in some cases it is not.
The ingredient is called: Isinglass. They use it to clarify.
The problem is that many people who are vegetarians for ethical reasons were not aware of this.
The main culprit turns out to be stout. That means that if you are a fan of Guiness, Murphys, or any other commercially available stout then you better check it out.
Here is an old post I found from 2009 that will give you some more in depth information.

If you want to find a list of Vegan Beers then you can check this out:

I was surprised that they still use this stuff. You would think that they would have developed a better method for clarification.

Sitting is the New Smoking
That's the news in the health world: get up out of your chair and move around. Sitting is being linked to all sorts of heart problems and diabetes. It is also likely to hurt your back and cause posture problems that can then lead to muscle problems.
Some in the press have called this Silicon Valley Syndrome because of the amount of time people who work on computers site around. Many of these people also eat poorly. That is a deadly combo.
But even if you eat healthy, you are in trouble if you don't move around. You might be sitting there composing wonderful material, designing intricate software, and loads of other impressive stuff. But if you don't move your body, you will develop health problems.
The person who sits at a desk all day might say to themselves, well I am health conscious. I don't eat cake for breakfast and drink beer all day. I drink green tea instead of soda, and i do yoga on the weekends. Well, that's not good enough
The concept became popular after a Ted Talk. The speaker, Nilofer Merchanr, used the phrase to describe the dangerous sedentary lifestyle. People sleep, and then sit. There is almost no activity.

Pregnant Woman Fired Because She Refused Flu Shot
A young woman, who is also pregnant, was recently fired from her job because she refused to get a flu shot. This is causing lots of talk because flu vaccines have been linked to autism. Should her employer have been able to fire her because she said no?
There are a few problems with this situation. First, she was acting as a nurse. This means she was in close contact with people who are more likely to be sick than the average person. So, one could understand the reasoning behind wanting nurses and other hospital workers to get the flu shot.
The problem with this is that there are many in the health community that believe vaccinations can cause illness in children. The leading one is Autism. But there are other health concerns. So it is perfectly reasonable that this woman was hesitant to get the shot.
According to the story the nurse offered the hospital an alternative. She said she would wear a mask. That was not good enough for the hospital. So she was fired.
Here is a link to the news story.

There is sure to be follow up in the media because people on both sides will have a strong opinion.

Dominos Pizza Plans on Making Vegan Pizza
This is great news for all the vegans in the world. One of the largest pizza producers has made plans to create a cheese free pizza. They are not making it a plain vegetable and sauce topping pie, rather they are planning on making a pizza with Soy cheese. That will entice lots of vegans.
I have tried soy cheese a long time ago and it was not bad. I imagine that if the big pizza companies have gotten into the act then it probably tastes really good.
There are going to be lots of eyes watching how this goes. If it sells, then you can expect all of the other pizza chains to follow suit. There is a really large untapped market. Many vegans loved pizza, and they make cheese free pizzas at home. There are some really good brands in the supermarket that you can buy and cook in your over. What is missing is the convenience of a take out shop.
Currently it is only being offered in Israel. I think that they should market it in the United States. There are lots of people who would get it. Not only ethical vegans, but lots of vegetarians would probably try it, plus there are whole segments of people who are not strictly vegan or vegetarian, but who are lactose intolerant or who simply think it is not healthy to eat that much cheese.
The article says the price is about $20 bucks. Thats alot of money for a pizza. If they lower the price then I could see this being a big seller.
Alot of vegetarians are already hesitant about cheese, because so much of it is made with rennant, and that's not vegetarian freidnyl. You have some cheese which use artificial rennant, or lemon juice, but most do not.
You can read more about the Dominos Vegan pizza here:
