Shaina Twain Talks About Being A Vegetarian

I didn't know that Shaina Twain was a vegetarian. But apparently she has made a bunch of lists of the most famous, sexiest vegetarians, etc....

It's always good when someone famous comes out and announces that they are a vegetarian.

Apparently what turned her on to the lifestyle was that alot of her friends who were being treated for cancer told her that they were told by their physicians to cut out the meat.

It's nice that doctors are advising people to stop eating meat, it would be better if they were told this before they got sick.

You also have someone like Ringo Star coming out and saying that the vegetarian lifestyle has made him more healthy.

It's good when these big name, healthy people come out and make a statement. More people should become aware of how healthy the lifestyle is.

Good food, healthy food, is now available in most large supermarkets. You can find all types of fruits and vegetables. Plus tofu and other meatless alternatives.

Here where I heard about Shaina and her vegetarian lifestyle. Hope alot of her fans come away with something positive and and try to eat healthier and stop killing animals.

Wine Might Not Be Vegetarian: Fish in Wine?

Next time you open that bottle of Chardonay or Pinot Noir, you might be drinking fish. Yep, thats right, there are many wines that are made with fish. Just like beer. It's something that many in the wine world have known about for years, but it is only hitting the mainstream news outlets. People are finding out that wine is made with fish guts.

What? Fish guts you say? Yes.

The process in wine is called Fining. That is the step where the sediment from the wine is captured by something: egg protein, egg, milk casein, or fish guts. The sediment from the wine is then captured into this protein and it sinks to the bottom of the barrel. The wine can then be taken from the top. This "top" wine is clear and is much more visually desirable.

The winemakers will tell you that it is fine and healthy to drink. They will even tell you that it is not going to impart a taste. But the vigilant vegetarian or vegan will understand that they are drinking something that was processed with animal products. In some cases a fish was killed in order to make their wine. This is not something that you should be proud of.

Read more about it here. Your Wine may have fish in it.

Your Beer Might Not Be Vegetarian

Did you know that there are some beers and alcohol that have fish guts in them? Well, neither did I. It turns out that the some of the most famous beer brands have all sorts of ugly ingredients. Food coloring, additives, and in some cases: fish guts?

The fish guts is of interest to vegetarians because you would think that beer and wine was vegetarian. Well, in some cases it is not.

The ingredient is called: Isinglass. They use it to clarify.

The problem is that many people who are vegetarians for ethical reasons were not aware of this.

The main culprit turns out to be stout. That means that if you are a fan of Guiness, Murphys, or any other commercially available stout then you better check it out.

Here is an old post I found from 2009 that will give you some more in depth information.

If you want to find a list of Vegan Beers then you can check this out:

I was surprised that they still use this stuff. You would think that they would have developed a better method for clarification.
