Vegetarians on Survivor- Which Season Had The Most Vegetarians

Kimmi Kappenberg famously would not eat an animal product during an immunity challenge early on during the first seasons of Survivor. But later when she appeared on Game Changers it appears  that she is no longer a non-meat eater.

And there was the famous season when it appeared that Sandra Diaz Twine (who later became one of the few people to quit survivor and give up mid game) wanted the tribe to kill a baby goat.

Perhaps the season with the most vegetarians on it was Kaoh Rong. This was the season with Poker Player Anna Khait and the player named Tai who led chickens around like pets.

But Tai was shown eating Fish with caleb, the famous scene where he tried to bite/kiss Caleb.

But on the show most of them supposedly ate meat which was chickens.

There is ample rice provided to the team as well as fruits and things that they can forrage, so it is a bit strange that vegetarians would still kill chickens and eat meat.

You can read an intersting discusson about the vegetarian survivor members here on Reddit

Beyond Meat Has An Old History

The idea of making fake meats from vegetables is not just something that has become popular with beyond meat. And it's not something that just popped up in the grocery aisles when brands like Garden Burgers came on the scene.

As a recent article in CNN details, there has been a history of making meatless meat dishes. Many of them were made due to the cost and scarcity of meat, not necessarily because people had an ethical problem with eating meat.

However, there is also an older, more ethically based diet in China that incorporates vegetarian foods. This was due to Buddhist diets. The Buddhists would not eat animals, but they would want to have a feast that was fit for guests. So, they spent great care creating meals that would be both animal free as well as extremely tasty.

Here' a great video that goes over the ideas behind Buddhist and vegetarianism.

Bodybuilding Documentary Debates Vegetarian and Vegan Diet

The new documentary Game Changers has been released on streaming sites like Netflix and it's created a stir online. The film features a former fighter who became injured and then started to research the different ways he could improve his recovery time.

The first thing that he noticed that set him down the road to investigating the superiority of a vegan diet is that Gladiators were vegetarians. This was discovered by doing bone tests.

If you watch the film, one of the most striking scenes is where they feed three incidental meals (Mexican food) to three athletes. The only difference between the meals is the protein source. One is made with black beans and the other two are made using meat. Then the athletes blood is tested and the results are astounding. The amount of fat in the blood is vastly different.

The documentary highlights athletes of all kinds, from bodybuilders and powerlifters, to boxers who fight in the heavyweight division and distance athletes . This sort of coverage dispels the myth that it is only distance athletes who will benefit form a plant based protein diet.

Here is an interesting article that discusses how one of the worlds most famous bodybuilders saw the movie and wanted to switch to a plant based diet.

Kai Green (famous for his extended interviews in films like Generation Iron) was convinced to move towards a plant based diet.

Vegetarian Thanksgiving Ideas

One of the years biggest holiday is almost here: Thanksgiving. This is the holiday that most people associate with Turkey for dinner. However, if you are planning on throwing a thanksgiving holiday meal for your friends and family, and either you or they are vegetarian, then you need to be mindful of what sort of food you can serve. Turkey might be fine for the majority of the dinner guests, but it's not right for all people....namely vegetarians.

Some people might think that the best way to handle the situation is to serve the turkey as the main dish and then expect the guests to eat just the sides. But that's a bit inconsiderate. It will make the vegetarian guests think that they were not thought of. Now if you happen to be a vegetarian, then you will surely know what to cook. But if you're not a vegetarian then you might be a bit puzzled about what main dishes to make. That said, here are a few examples:

1. Pasta

While many people might not associate pasta with thanksgiving, it is certainly a great dinner idea. You can make a baked pasta dish that would be perfect for your vegetarian guests. You can find some great recipes online for baked zita or even a vegetarian lasagna.

2.Quinoa

Some people don't like pasta, maybe it's the people who are gluten free, or maybe it's just too much trouble cooking. So what you might want to consider is something such as  quinoa. This is a fun dish that you can cook up and make seasonal by adding things such as squash or pumpkin.

3. Fake Turkey

There is always the option to get fake turkey. These are made from something such as tofu. You can get them from brands like ToFurkey...which is one of the more popular ones. This way your guests can eat "turkey" and sides like mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, etc...

Carnivore Diet : Popualar Diet Based Around All Meat

The carnivore diet is based around the idea that you only have to eat meat. People who follow this diet eat nothing besides read meat. Not even a little bit of cheese or eggs. It's a very strict diet and has gotten a bunch of attention because it's so dramatic and also seems to get results. But are those results good?

There are podcasts and articles online where the speakers will say that you can get all of your nutrients from red meat. They argue that plants are not what you should be eating. Some of these people are doctors, but most are regular people.

The premise is that the human body does not need to consume animal products aside from meat (specifically from cows). They view plants as detrimental to the body because of the anti-nutrients that you would find in many plants. The critics of this diet say that the things that are known as anti-nutrients are not actually bad for you.  While the plant might have chemicals that are designed to have prevent insects from eating them. There are actually loads of health benefits to eating plants. Here's a brief video of someone who is very pro carnivore where he discusses the impact of an all meat diet on heart health.

The problem with this diet is that it does not have a great deal of studies behind it. Most of what is being discussed at the current moment is based around anecdotal evidence. Another problem is that there is a lot of controversy around it. Many people find that the noise surrounding the issue is very troubling because all of the conversation is being dominated by people who are either vegans or vegetarians or very pro meat people. The science, therefore, can become cloudy with all of the personal insults that get exchanged.

It's a very controversial topic and has spawned a number of videos.  Proceed with caution.

This created a lot of debate:

Research Suggest Vegetarians Smell Sexier Then Meat Eaters

As if you needed yet another reason to stop eating meat, there is some research that suggests that people who eat a vegetarian diet actually smell sexier.

The study also looked at how eating a diet full in fruits and vegetables can make your skin look better. Good looking skin is a subconscious signal for men and women. The increased vegetables can help your skin. Men like women who look like they are ovulating, and women like men who look/smell like they have high levels of testosterone.

Another interesting factor in the article is that they mention that women who were blind tested were asked to judge the "sexiness" of a mans scenet and they found that men who had not eaten meat for several days--it was two weeks in the study-- had a mnore positive reaction from the womenb.

Chloe Mortez Chooses Vegetarian Lifestyle

Another celeb has joined the ranks of the vegetarianism. It's a super popular dietary choice in Hollywood. Some of the most fit and hottest celebs are either vegan or vegetarians. Celebs such as Kate Hudson and Toby Maquire are vegetarians, and now Chloe is yet another name on the list. Her choice of dripping animal flesh is excellent as she can reach a whole new, and younger audience. She's very popular after her Neighbors, and Kick Ass movies. You can read a bit about her new lifestyle choice and her upcomming horror movie which is a remake of Suprisa.

The list of other celebs who have opted for vegetarian lifestyles include Adele, the pop singer Ariana Grande, and even Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage. There was a big article about the popularity of vegetarian lifestlyes in Hollywood back in November around Thanksgiving when HuffPo posted an article listing these and several others.

The variety of vegetarianism is cool because it shows the different body types. You have thin and trim, as well as well built muscular actors.
